Job Posting: MILLWRIGHT (STARSHIP LAUNCH HARDWARE)

MILLWRIGHT (STARSHIP LAUNCH HARDWARE)

As part of the Starship Launch Hardware Fabrication & Tooling team, you will work on building and improving the mechanical systems at our rocket launch facilities. You will be on the ground floor, getting your hands dirty and contributing directly to the success of future launches.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reading blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Installing stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans using hand and power tools
  • Inspecting and examining machinery and equipment to detect irregularities and malfunctions
  • Adjusting machinery and repairing or replacing defective parts
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, motors and programmable logic controls
  • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts,
  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances,
  • Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments,
  • Perform predictive and operational procedures,
  • Operating machine tools to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery
  • Ensuring operating safety devices function properly on completion of repairs, modifications and installations
  • Sharpening and maintaining cutting tools
  • Participating in the PM program on all equipment for continuous improvement of all machines
  • Keeping detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Cleaning, lubricating and performing other routine maintenance work on machinery
  • Maintaining a clean and environmentally safe work area adhering to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances
  • Adhere to Best Maintenance practices by attending daily scheduling meetings and working with Operations to manage break-in work.
  • Other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing/production or tooling environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two-year degree (associate or technical)
  • Experience with laser trackers
  • Experience with model-based metrology
  • Experience analyzing data and generating data reports
  • Experience with Verisurf X
  • Experience using inspection equipment, such as, micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, profilometers, CMM and laser trackers
  • Experience with Leica laser trackers
  • Understanding of geometric relationships
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process of large structures from concept to completion
  • Ability to precision locate machines and details in extreme environments
  • Ability to visualize 3D space and integrate complex geometries on to both large and small fabrications
  • Ability to use and learn a variety of software to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate pertinent information
  • Ability to adapt to an extremely dynamic work environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to find solutions to problems through diverse thinking while utilizing a varied experience
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of safety on the job site and bring new ideas of how to continue to work safely and effectively in new locations and changing environments

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to work the following shift
    • Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm
  • Ability to work nights & weekends when needed to meet critical launch milestones
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) unassisted
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (up to 100 feet)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Travel to other sites may be required, up to 15% of the time
