Position Overview
L3Harris is seeking a Director, Accounting, reporting directly to the Senior Director, Segment Controller. This role has overall responsibility for the controller functions of the Sector, including leading a team of analysts of varying degrees of experience who are responsible for program and business related accounting. The ideal candidate for this role has strong technical ASC 606 experience, including its application to both government and commercial contracts, and previous experience in both technical accounting analysis and operational accounting.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead a team of professional accountants and finance analysts who provide financial reporting and accounting support, working in multiple US and international based locations
- Ensure controls are designed and operating effectively to address risk and maintain compliance with accounting policies
- Establish close working relationships with Programs, Operations, Compliance, and other Finance functions.
- Coordinate work during monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles to ensure deadlines are achieved
- “Own” the financial balances resulting from monthly close activities including review of transactions, balances, quarterly and annual schedules, and financial analytics
- Serve as subject matter expert to advise segment leadership and business partners on technical accounting issues, including but not limited to revenue recognition standards
- Research technical accounting matters and prepare well-written memorandums and presentations articulating these matters
- Prepare ad-hoc reporting and assist with special projects, as requested
- Liaise with external auditors to support the company’s positions, and support internal and external audit activities as required
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience. 5+ years of public accounting experience
- CPA with active license
- Ability to gain DOW clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance, and 13 years of related experience
- Big Four experience, especially with audits or consulting of clients with government business and complex contracts
- Experience in contract accounting, preferably including U.S. government contracts
- Strong project management skills, including demonstrated ability to think end-to-end and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work under consultative direction and set own priorities
- Experience working in a publicly traded company with SOX requirements
