TacIRST Development Chief Engineer
Description:
The Advanced Threat Warning Systems (ATWS) Tactical InfraRed Search and Track (TacIRST) Development Chief Engineer provides technical leadership for emerging infrared threat warning technologies across a portfolio of customers, use cases, and operational domains. Reporting to the ATWS program area Chief Engineer, you will partner with the program and the USG customer base. You will work with the Advanced Programs Special Programs (AP/SP) organization to keep product development pipelines running smoothly. In addition, you will coordinate the AP/SP threat warning technology roadmap, oversee vehicle base kit integrations, and drive international threat warning pursuits.
What You Will Be Doing
- Providing technical leadership for the ATWS development portfolio.
- Coordinating cross-discipline IPTs to align schedules, interfaces, and milestones.
- Driving technical risk management, trade-off, and affordability decisions.
- Partnering with USG customer and internal stakeholders to communicate requirements, risks, and trade-offs, acting as the primary LM point of contact for emerging threat warning systems.
- Mentor others and champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and Full Spectrum Leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define system architecture and lead the end-to-end integration of hardware, electronics, and signal processing algorithms.
- Coordinate the AP/SP threat warning technology roadmap, aligning long-term development plans with customer requirements, ATWS strategy, and emerging threat environments.
- Lead technical reviews and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Drive trade study analyses and design-to-cost decisions across all platform variants.
- Oversee integration of threat warning systems onto diverse platforms (fighters, UAS, rotary wing, ground vehicles).
- Provide vehicle base kit technical oversight.
- Lead international threat warning pursuits, working with ITAR/EAR teams to expand ATWS capabilities worldwide.
- Lead briefings, status updates, technical interchange meetings, and readiness reviews.
- Identify, track, and mitigate technical risks; participate in Failure Review Boards, Risk Management Reviews, and Mission Success Reviews.
- Capture lessons learned and share best practices across the ATWS Chief Engineer staff.
- Provide technical oversight to key suppliers; verify compliance with technical specifications and execute technical reviews as required.
Requirements:
- Deliver integrated hardware, algorithm, and software solutions on time and within budget with clear communication with customers and senior leadership.
- Demonstrate strong influence and communication across capture, program management, and technical stakeholders, driving execution while balancing competing priorities.
- Infrared sensor/optics design, signal processing, and threat warning system experience; proven track record taking technology from concept to production.
- Plan and lead technical solutions from proposal through all development phases and transition to production.

Will require occasional domestic travel. The position will require on-site work with the ability to flex working hours.
Basic Qualifications:
- Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, and relevant professional experience.
- Proven technical management of large cross-functional engineering teams in infrared sensor/optics systems and related platform families.
- Hands-on experience with IR sensor integration, thermal management, and calibration/validation, and with transitioning emerging technologies into mature, fielded systems.
- Working knowledge of subcontractor technical management (e.g., contract oversight and performance monitoring).
- Ability to travel domestically for customer visits, supplier audits, and test range activities.
- Active Secret clearance.
Desired Skills:
- An advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Prior experience at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is preferred.
- Familiarity with export-controlled (ITAR/EAR) hardware development and CUI handling.
- Experience managing subcontractor technical performance and integrating external hardware into system architecture.
- Knowledge of Full Spectrum Leadership (FSL) principles and a proven track record applying them in a defense technology or aerospace program.
- Experience in leading Failure Analysis, Failure Review Boards, and root cause investigations.
- Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance preferred.

Ability to Work Remotely:
Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules:
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five-day workweek while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
