Amentum is seeking a Meteorologist for Range Operations to support the Space Force Range contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform surface observations, synoptic evaluations, and upper-air wind editing during launch operations
- Analyze and edit wind speed and directional data in support of mission activities to ensure the highest quality of data is sent to the launch customer
- Coordinate launch critical information to the launch customer
- Analyze current weather conditions and create short-term forecasts to utilize for editing the upper level wind data
- Support operational testing of meteorological instrumentation
- Control and develop procedures and instructions for the Cape Weather Station
- Inventory and purchase weather balloons, radiosondes and parachutes when required
- Perform inventories and internal audits on government property
- Perform internal quality audits
- Complete assigned training and assist with the training of others to ensure optimal availability of qualified personnel for daily operations and launch support
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- BS degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or related discipline
- Two (2) years of weather forecasting experience in an operations environment
- Thorough knowledge of upper air wind characteristics
- MS Windows and MS Office experience
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience, preferred
- Experience working on the Eastern/Western Range or military meteorological systems, preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in high-stress environments
- Ability to work well with minimal supervision
- Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a diverse, team-orientated environment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees and the public
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Local travel required between Weather sites on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station
- Possess visual acuity correctable to 20/20
- Ability to visually observe clouds
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions
- The flexibility to work frequent non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
