Job Description

Responsible for performing and managing physical and administrative tasks related to inventory control, shipping, receiving, storing, and distribution of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. Duties include rejecting unsatisfactory items, determining routing and arrangements for shipments based on item characteristics, urgency, and cost, and selecting the most economical and efficient carriers. Prepares and maintains records of shipped and received products, processes freight bills and related documentation, and tracks shipments using a Product Tracking System. Receives, unpacks, and verifies incoming materials against purchase orders or invoices, ensuring conformance to stated identifications and inspecting for non-conforming material per company procedures. Stocks and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. Ensures compliance with material handling procedures, Environmental Health and Safety requirements, and safe handling of chemicals per the Hazardous Chemical Guidebook. Troubleshoots and rectify straightforward discrepancies, escalating issues as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Candidates should be well versed with transportation and logistics skills to ensure proper transportation modes are utilized.
  • A working knowledge of government and international regulations.
  • Direct experience in processing government shipments in WAWF, EASE, ETA (FAST and SIR) and GBL.
  • Direct experience in processing export documents and filing EEIs.
  • Prepares and maintains records of shipped products and tracks shipments.
  • Communicate with parties inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ensures that Environment, health, and Safety comply, in accordance with company policy.
  • Work closely with management, programs, customers, DCMA, carriers/freight forwarders to ensure contractual deliveries are completed on time.
  • Works to achieve operational targets within job area which has impact on the overall achievement of results for the team.
  • Ability to complete work or projects that are of a larger scope, including group cost savings projects.
  • Has the ability to stand on their feet for extended periods of time, up to 9 hours
  • Holds ability to handle items (up to 45 lbs.) utilizing proper lifting techniques and material handling aids (e.g., pallet jacks, height adjustable carts, etc.), when required.
  • May act as a mentor to lower-level peers and provide guidance on tasks.
  • Responsible for reporting and charts on all transportation movement; to include logistics savings, cost type summary, cost per lb., carrier scorecards, etc.
  • Communicates with contacts typically within and outside the department on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring explanation or interpretation to understand and reach agreement.
  • Knowledge of packaging techniques in accordance with ASTM Best Practices procedures
  • Knowledge of handling, packaging, and preparing classified material for shipment.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience working in a transportation or logistics field.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good customer service, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Familiar with MS Office applications, specifically Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Word
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
  • Organizational, Operational, and Leadership skills.
  • Current/previous Dangerous Goods by Air certification.
