Job Description

L3Harris Technologies is seeking an Environmental Specialist to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Environmental Specialist will drive environmental and sustainability initiatives, support risk reduction efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement in EHS performance across aerospace and defense operations. This role will work cross-functionally to provide EHS support during facility expansion, space planning, and operational changes. The Environmental Specialist will play a key role in incident investigation, regulatory compliance, training, inspections, and ensuring a proactive safety culture.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations
  • Utilize thorough knowledge of federal and state air, industrial wastewater, potable water, domestic wastewater, stormwater, U.S. DOT, regulated waste management, spill prevention control and countermeasure plans (SPCCP), Tier II and TRI reporting, and emergency response (HAZWOPER) regulations to complete daily tasks and reports
  • Responsible for sustainability data metrics reporting of EHS performance through the Gensuite software
  • Work extensively with the EHS chemical tracking database for the generation of all environmental program reports
  • Ensure appropriate personnel are properly trained in regulated waste management, stormwater, spill prevention control and countermeasure plans (SPCCP), and HAZWOPER as well as in areas determined by segment EHS leadership
  • Effectively interact with multiple levels of personnel including senior management and government agencies
  • Complete multiple environmental compliance reports and permit requirements, with accuracy and attention to detail, while meeting multiple regulatory and segment deadlines
  • Quickly synthesize technical and program information and apply regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience; Or, Graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience; Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Majority of experience and education in the environmental programs portion of EHS
  • Experience in multiple environmental compliance programs and supervising staff and contractors
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA)
  • Experience leading environmental programs in a manufacturing, aerospace, or defense environment
  • Demonstrated experience with sustainability program development and implementation
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Experience in hazardous waste management and environmental permitting
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and other voluntary EHS management systems
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
