Lockheed Martin Space has an excellent opportunity for an Electronics Engineer Sr / Network Engineer Sr, to work on the ORION program! Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor building NASA's Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the only spacecraft designed for long-duration, human-rated deep space exploration supporting NASA's Artemis missions. Orion will transport humans to interplanetary destinations beyond low Earth orbit, such as the moon and eventually Mars, and return them safely back to Earth. Exciting stuff, yes? What does this role look like?

  • Work under supervision to develop requirements, create designs, create engineering drawings and documentation for networking (TCP/IP, LAN, WAN etc.) Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) hardware racks.
  • Support manufacturing, perform acceptance test, deliver, and support customer usage of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) used to build and test the ORION spacecraft.
  • Create, maintain, and load networking switch, router, and firewall configurations and troubleshoot and debug network communication issues.

Key activities you will accomplish in this role:

  • Creating preliminary designs
  • Creating and maintaining rack engineering drawings and electrical schematics to include Computing, Networking, NAS, and timing components
  • Supporting creation of rack mechanical drawings
  • Creating and maintaining networking drawings
  • Writing and maintaining requirements documents and other rack documentation
  • Support procurement and build of EGSE rack level systems
  • Run acceptance testing of completed EGSE equipment
  • Requirements verification
  • Troubleshooting and debug of networking hardware and interconnection cabling
  • Support EGSE usage for ORION vehicle testing
  • Preform network administration responsibilities including configuration, archiving, OS updates of Cisco devices, NTP Appliances, and SAN Fiber channel switches
  • Support networking cable interfaces between flight and ground equipment
  • Working with other teams and groups across the ORION program

To be effective in this role, you will need:

  • Experience and coursework in electronics design, networking design and/or test of electrical hardware.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience for this role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Experience with electrical test equipment and/or networking hardware (switches, etc.)
  • Knowledge of networking components and systems
  • Knowledge of electronic & electrical components and systems

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with networking equipment using TCP/IP along with LAN, WAN, NTP, VoIP, and SAN/NAS networks
  • Understanding of OSI model layer 1-4
  • Experience with Firewall Appliance hardware
  • Fiber Optics experience including testing and cleaning procedures
  • Understanding of basic design of IT computer systems
  • Understanding of Request for Comments (RFC) and IEEE 802 standards
  • Basic understanding of Time-Triggered Gigabit Ethernet
  • Experience creating rack level interconnect (cabling & wiring) Engineering Drawings
  • Experience supporting build and test of rack level systems including networking hardware and interconnection cabling
  • Experience supporting network administration roles including configuration, archiving, OS updates of Cisco devices, NTP Appliances, and SAN Fiber channel switches
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at different stages of completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to travel occasionally is required

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
